Passivation

Passivation is a chemical treatment for stainless steel and other alloys that enhances the ability of the treated surfaces to resist corrosion.

How Passivation Works

In stainless steel, the passivation process uses nitric acid or citric acid to remove free iron from the surface. The chemical treatment creates an outer layer of shield or passivation film that enhances the ability of the treated surfaces to resist corrosion.
