Custom Aluminium Forging Services

At HLH Rapid, we manufacture and supply custom aluminium forgings. Forged parts are pieces of aluminium shaped by pressing, pounding or squeezing under high pressure to form high strength, durable parts. Whether you require prototype or production quantities, we can deliver high-quality forged aluminium parts made from a wide range of alloys.

Why Aluminium Forging?

1. High Strength Parts

Forged aluminium is generally stronger than cast aluminium. Forging also reduces the likelihood of internal defects such as porosity and voids, which are more common in cast aluminium.

2. Excellent Strength-to-Weight Ratio

The excellent strength-to-weight ratio of aluminium make it ideal for weight-critical applications. For this reason, aluminium forgings are the chosen material for NASA rockets and spacecrafts.

3. Faster Time to Market

Aluminium is readily available and relatively inexpensive, with generally shorter lead times compared to other forged metals — facilitating rapid prototyping, testing, and product launch.

4. Recyclable Metal

Forged aluminium is not just easy to work with but highly recyclable. Aluminium and its alloys can be melted and recast repeatedly without loss in quality with today’s technology.

Common Forged Aluminium Application:

  1. Aerospace: Lightweight components and aircraft fittings in alloys like AL7075.
  2. Automotive: Forged aluminium wheels, levers, shafts, rollers, control arms.
  3. Marine: Battery racks and moving and stationary rings.
  4. Machinery: Frames, sliding blocks and strand plates.
  5. Renewable Energy: Guard rings, fuel racks and gas flanges.

Aluminium forging process and services

Types of Aluminium Forgings:

There are several types of aluminium forgings, the three main types include: open die forgings, closed die forgings, and rolled ring forgings.

Open Die Aluminium Forging:

Also known as smith forging or free forging, open die aluminium forgings are created by hammering or pressing aluminium between dies that do not completely enclose the metal to create the desired shape through a series of movements – repeatedly hammered under high pressure. Open die aluminium forging is typically used when forgings are very large parts, low to medium quantities, or projects that require a fast turnaround time.

Closed Die Aluminium Forging:

Also called impression die forging, closed die aluminium forgings are created by pressing aluminium between a set of precut die profiles that fully enclose the metal to create the desired shape. Closed die aluminium forging is generally more expensive and used for large orders or when a finished product requires a complex shape, smaller size, or more controlled finished aesthetic.

Rolled Ring Forging:

In order to create the appropriate ring size and thickness, rolled ring forging first punches a hole in a large metal cylinder or disc, then rolls or squeezes the aluminium. Larger orders, projects where complete machining might not be necessary, and rings that are medium to large in size are the main uses for rolled ring forging.

FAQs

At HLH Rapid, aluminium forging turns aluminium alloys into strong, durable parts using advanced techniques. This improves the metal’s strength, making it perfect for aerospace, automotive, and industrial uses.

Our company uses modern equipment and precise engineering to create complex shapes with great accuracy and smooth finishes. Their expertise ensures high performance, less material waste, and cost savings.

Committed to quality and innovation, HLH Rapid provides custom aluminium forging solutions that meet strict industry standards and client needs. Upload your CAD File to our contact form here and our team of experts will contact you within 24 Hours.

The main difference between forging and casting is that the forging process does not melt the workpiece material to create a new shape. In aluminium forging, the aluminium in solid form is shaped into the desired shape by pressing or pounding, whereas in casting, the metal is melted and poured into a mould to create the desired shape.
