Electroless nickel plating is an chemical process where a layer of nickel-phosphorus (or sometimes nickel-boron) alloy is deposited onto a part without the need for an electric current. Unlike traditional electroplating, it relies on chemical reactions to achieve uniform coating across complex geometries.
Preparation: parts are cleaned
Catalytic Reaction: the part is immersed in a bath containing nickel and other chemicals
Coating: the nature of the process means a uniform coat across the part, even in hole and hard to reach places.
An electroless nickel plating has several advantages including being able to coat complex parts, providing excellent corrosion resistance and wear resistance whilst maintaining dimensional accuracy. It is used in many industries including aerospace and automotive to protects engine parts from corrosion and wear. Electronics industry for a conductive but corrosion-resistant layer. The medical device industry uses it as it protects surgical instruments due to its biocompatibility and sterilisation resistance. Electroless nickel plating is a versatile, reliable coating process used across many industries. Talk to HLH to understand if your parts can be nickel plated, info@hlhrapid.com.
